#12 LADY HORNETS POST 53-41 WIN OVER WASHBURN

Emporia State holds Ichabods to lowest point total in 96 meetings

January 23, 2016-The #12 Lady Hornets held Washburn to the lowest point total in 96 all-time meetings in a 53-41 Emporia State win on Saturday night in Topeka.
 
IN THE BEGINNING
The last time the two met Emporia State got out to a 19-0 lead and this time the Lady Hornets scored the first six points.  Washburn answered with a 7-0 run to take their first lead over Emporia State since Feb. 5, 2014. 
 
TAKING CONTROL
The Ichabods would push their lead to 13-9 to open the second quarter and led 15-13 with 6:35 left in the period.  The Lady Hornets would then close the half on a 12-2 run, capped by a Kathryn Flott three-pointer with 30.6 seconds left in the frame. 
 
KEEPING IT UP
The Lady Hornets would outscore the Ichabods 17-7 in the third quarter to build a 42-24 lead headed into the fourth quarter.  A Sandra Ngoie jumper in the paint gave Emporia State a 20point lead at 44-24 with 9:28 left in the game.  The Lady Hornets would then cruise to a 53-41 victory.
 
THE NUMBERS
Kathryn Flott led Emporia State with 14 points and tied her career high with 15 rebounds.  She was joined in double figures by Kelsey Barnwell with 11 points, including three-three-pointers. The 41 points were the fewest the Lady Hornets have allowed in 96 meetings between the two teams.
 
STREAK
This was the eighth straight win by the Lady Hornets over the Ichabods. 
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Hornets will travel to Southwest Baptist on Thursday, January 28 in Bolivar, Mo.  Tip-off from the Meyers Sports Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
