#3 LADY HORNETS OPEN 2016 WITH 101 POINTS IN WIN AGAINST LINCOLN UNIVERSITY

Six Lady Hornets in double figures

January 2, 2016 - The #3 Lady Hornets started 2016 with a 101-76 win over Lincoln University at home Saturday afternoon. This was the first time a team has scored 100 points in a MIAA game since Southwest Baptist defeated Missouri Western 100-99 in 2012. Six Lady Hornets scored in double digits against the Blue Tigers.

LADY HORNETS TAKE CONTROL EARLY
The Blue Tigers would tie the game once at 2-2 with 8:37 left in the first quarter, and only get as close as 9-8 at 5:34 in the first quarter. Emporia State then went on a 18-4 run to end the first quarter 27-12 on a Megan Holloway layup with two seconds remaining. In the first quarter alone, the Lady Hornets went four for seven from three point range. Emporia State earned seven assists in the first quarter, also outrebounding Lincoln 15-3.

GREAT SHOOTING
Kelly Moten scored the first basket of the second quarter, putting the Lady Hornets up 29-12. The rest of the half belonged to Emporia State as they continued to share the wealth, six players earning five or more points. At the end of the first half, the Lady Hornets led 50-28, shooting 47.4% from the field and seven for 15 from the arc. Emporia State also added another seven assists in the second quarter, totaling 14 assists.

EMPORIA STATE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
In the third quarter, Emporia State took the largest lead of the game, 73-42, with 31 points with 2:13 left. The Blue tigers ended the third quarter on a 6-2 run.

BENCH SCORING
With 3:53 left in the game, Emporia State would check in subs who finished the game strong. Shelby Baker would score eight of the last ten points for the Lady Hornets, Maria Moylan draining a three with 12 seconds remaining to put Emporia State up 101-74. The game would end on two made free throws from the Blue tigers.

SHARING THE WEALTH
Kelly Moten led Emporia State with 17 points, nine assists, and three steals, going three for three from three point range and six for six from the stripe. Five other Lady Hornets scored in double digits, including Addie Lackey with 16 points, Kelsey Barnwell with 13 points, Kathryn Flott with 12 points, Kyrstie Miller with 11 points, and Megan Holloway with 10 points. Addie Lackey had five assists against the Blue Tigers while Sandra Ngoie earned 11 rebounds. Kyrstie Miller had three blocks on the day. The Lady Hornets finished the game shooting 50.7% from the field and 11 for 25 from three point range.
