#3 LADY HORNETS FALL BEHIND EARLY IN LOSS AT MO. SOUTHERN

Lions hit seven of seven from behind three-point line

December 16, 2015-The #3 Lady Hornets cut a 16 point deficit down to four with 2:48 left but Missouri Southern hit seven of eight free throws in the final 1:30 on the way to a 71-58 Lion win on Wednesday night in Joplin, Mo. 

SLOW START
Emporia State trailed 16-11 after the first quarter and would trail by as many as ten points in the second quarter before going to the locker rooms down 34-27 at the half.  Missouri Southern hit four of four three-pointers and was eight for eight from the free throw line during the first half.

THIRD QUARTER PARADE
For just the second time this year and second straight game the Lady Hornets were outscored in the third quarter.  There were 18 fouls called and the teams combined to go 15 of 18 from the free throw line during the ten minute period.  At one point 15 of 19 points between the two teams were scored from the free throw line.

WORKING A COMEBACK
The Lady Hornets scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to cut hte lead to seven at 54-47 with 7:34 left.  Two free throws from Kathryn Flott and a jumper from Addie Lackey cut the lead to 59-55 with 2:48 left. Deb Holcomb hit the seventh straight three-pointer of the night as teh shot clock expired with 2:16 left to push the lead back to seven and the Lady Hornets were forced to foul.  The Lions then hit seven of eight free throws in the final 1:30 for the final score.

THE NUMBERS
Addie Lackey and Kathryn Flott each scored 13 points while Kelly Moten added 12 for the Lady Hornets.  Emporia State was outrebounded for the first time this season, 34-28, and Missouri Southern shot 50% from the field.  It was the first time the Lady Hornets have been outrebounded and allowed an opponent to shoot at least 50% from the field since a 78-58 loss at Truman on Jan. 12, 2013.

UP NEXT
The Lady Hornets travel to Pittsburg State on Saturday, Dec. 19 in Pittsburg, Kan.  Tip-off from John Lance Arena is set for 1:30 p.m.
