December 12, 2015 – The #3 Lady Hornets improved to 8-1 on the season with a 71-55 victory over Central Missouri on Saturday at White Auditorium, improving to 2-1 in MIAA play.
EVENLY MATCHED FIRST HALF
Emporia State started the game on a 7-2 run, and led by as many as nine before settling in for a 16-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Jennies would fight back at the beginning of the second quarter to finally lead 21-20 with 6:43 left in the first half. The Lady Hornets ended the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 34-26 lead to the locker rooms.
NOT A NORMAL THIRD
A Central Missouri 17-9 third quarter allowed the game to be tied 43-43 going into the fourth quarter. It was the first time this year the Lady Hornets had been outscored in the third quarter.
LADY HORNETS PULL AWAY
Emporia State used a 28-12 fourth quarter to secure the win. Kelsey Barnwell had the hot hand in the fourth quarter, shooting three for five from beyond the three point line for nine of her game high 18 points.
THE NUMBERS
Kelsey Barnwell and Sandra Ngoie led all scorers with 18 points each. Ngoie earned a double-double on the night with ten rebounds and 18 points. Barnwell shot four for eight from the arc, four for four from the free throw line, and five for ten from the field. Addie Lackey had 16 points and four assists for the Lady Hornets, shooting seven for eight from the stripe. Kathryn Flott led all players with 13 rebounds.

The #3 Lady Hornets will travel to Joplin, Mo. to take on Missouri Southern on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
