November 24, 2015-A total of 29 returning members of the #18 Emporia State football team were honored for their work in the classroom with the announcement of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and Scholar-Athlete awards.
Harlon Hill Trophy nominee and conference Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Brent Wilson along with all-MIAA linebacker Jason Tetuan were both named MIAA Scholar-Athletes. Wilson has 3.71 GPA in management while Tetuan maintains a 3.66 GPA in accounting. They were joined by 27 other Hornets on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
The MIAA Scholar Athlete Award is given to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and earn All-MIAA honors.
To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
Newcomers along with the Academic Excellence Award for those with a 4.00 GPA will be recognized in June of 2016.
The Hornets are still competing in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. They travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. over the Thanksgiving Weekend to take on Henderson State. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28.
