#1 LADY HORNETS OPEN WITH 72-63 WIN AT SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA

Emporia State now 36-6 all-time in season openers

November 13, 2015-Top-ranked Emporia State used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to take control in a 72-63 season opening win at Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday night in Weatherford, Okla.  Kelly Moten led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 19 points.

UPPER CLASS LEADERSHIP
Senior Kelsey Barnwell was a career best five of six from the three-point line for 16 points while junior Kelly Moten added a game high 19 points with five assists and two steals.  Junior Kathryn Flott tied her career high with 14 rebounds and added seven points for the Lady Hornets. Junior Megan Holloway added three rebounds.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP
With the score ited at 4-4, Emporia State went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good.  All three of the Lady Hornet returning sophomores scored during the run. Jacee Kramer started things with a layup followed by a three-pointer from Kyrstie Miller and Addie Lackey capped it with a jumper to give Emporia State an 11-4 lead with 2:58 left in the quarter.  The trio combined for 26 points and 12 rebounds.

ON THE BOARDS
Emporia State outrebounded SWOSU 58-43 as all ten Lady Hornets that played grabbed at least two boards.  Freshmen Shelby Baker and Tiana Moala each had five rebounds.

PLAYING FEELS BETTER
Senior Sandra Ngoie missed shoot around with a stomach ailment, but was doubtful to play.  She ended up with three rebounds in three minutes in her Lady Hornet regular season debut.

UP NEXT
The #1 Lady Hornets will have a quick turnaround as they play Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 12 noon.  The Bison fell 73-62 to Missouri Southern in the first game of the SWOSU Classic on Friday in Weatherford, Okla.
