ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Emporia State is set for a trip to Missouri this weekend as they take on MIAA opponent Southwest Baptist on Friday, October 15 in Bolivar, Missouri followed by Missouri Southern on Sunday, October 17 in Joplin, Missouri.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State fell in extra time for the second time in three games in a 1-0 double overtime loss to Missouri Western on Sunday afternoon at the ESU Pitch. ESU and MWSU each took 17 shots in the match although ESU was outshot 2-1 in the extra time played.  Sydney Cluck scored the golden goal for the Griffons with 6:06 left in the second overtime.
 
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 30-41-15 in his fifth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He is 11-11-3 over his last 25 matches dating back to last year. He is 2-3-1 against Southwest Baptist and 1-2-1 against Missouri Southern.
Megan Link is a first year head coach for the Bearcats and has guided the team to an overall season record of 7-5-0.
Alese Woolard is a fifth year head coach for the Lions after previously serving four years as the Lions assistant coach from 2006-2009.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets have had eight different scorers this season. The Hornets have attempted 192 shots to their opponents 160 and have outscored opponents 25-16 this year.  Amelie Heun is second in the MIAA in goals scored and game winning goals and ranked third in the league in total points. She is 29th in the nation in goals and total points. She is second on the list for Emporia State single season goals and points scored. Grace Linton has four goals while McKenzie Koch and Kelsey Wakefield each have three goals this season. Goal keeper Yadira Rivera has played all 28 minutes between the pipes and has 61 saves and four solo and one combined shut outs on the season. She is third in the MIAA in saves.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Southwest Baptist is 7-5-0, 4-2-0 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are led by 2014 MIAA Offensive Player of the Year Karla Jamison who has scored 12 goals with two assists this season.  Caroline Karlsson is the second leading scorer for the Bearcats with four goals and five assists.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 27th meeting between Emporia State and Southwest Baptist with the Bearcats leading 18-6-2 overall. They are even at 3-3-1 over the last seven meetings.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST SBU
Emporia State gave up three first half goals in a 3-1 loss at Southwest Baptist in the first round of the MIAA Soccer Tournament in Bolivar, Mo. Amy Heun found the net in the 80th minute on a cross from Kelsey Wakefield for the Hornets to avoid the shutout.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Missouri Southern is 2-10-0, 0-6-0 in the MIAA. They have been outscored 26-12 on the season. Hannah Bomar is their leading scorer with three goals and two assists on the season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 26th meeting between Emporia State and Missouri Southern. The Lions lead the series 16-4-5. The series is even at 1-1-1 over the last three meetings.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST MSSU
Emporia State soccer fell short to Missouri Southern 1-0 at the EHS Pitch. The Hornets and Lions played to a 0-0 tie at half time. The lone goal came on a penalty kick from the Lions' Kelsey Haist in the 54th minute. Yadira Rivera recorded seven saves in the game for Emporia State while Bryar Wiley recorded five saves for Southern. The Hornets attempted 10 total shots and the Lions attempted 16 total shots.

Emporia State continues their road swing with matches at Neb.-Kearney on October 23 and Fort Hays State on October 25.
