Hornets eliminate RiverHawks to advance in MIAA Tourney

May 9, 2014-Emporia State got a complete game from Dakota McKaskle and every batter had either a run or RBI in a 10-3 win over Northeastern State in the MIAA Tournament.  The Hornets will play the losers of the game between Missouri Western and Central Oklahoma later this evening.

Emporia State scored first on a two out solo home run by Dean Long in the top of the first. The Hornets led 3-2 going into the fifth inning when they put five runs on the board. Justin Harris started things with a home run and Aaron Gile plated two runs with a double in the inning. The Hornets added two runs in the sixth and the RiverHawks tacked one on in the eighth for the final score.

McKaskle went the distance allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Toby Cornejo went three fof four with two runs scored while Long was one for two officially but scored three times with two walk in addition to his home run.

The Hornets will play the loser of the game between Missouri Western and Central Oklahoma later today in another elimination game.
