April 5, 2014- Emporia State lost both games of the double header against Washburn on Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets dropped game of the Turnpike Tussle double dip 10-1 and fell 5-1 in the second game.

After combining for 19 runs in an 11 inning contest on Friday night, the Hornets and Ichabods were scoreless through the first four innings in game one on Saturday.  Washburn broke through with three runs after two were out in the top of the fifth off starter Jarrod Miller.  The Ichabods then scored seven runs in the sixth off of three Hornet pitchers to take a 10-0 lead.  The Hornets picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth when Dean Long reached on an error and came home on an RBI single by Jordan Hodges for the final 10-1 score.

The Ichabods scored five runs in the first three innings off Hornet starter Kevin Shaffer.  Emporia State's bullpen combo of Dylan McEwin and Travis Hendry held Washburn without a baserunner over the final 3.0 innings but the Hornets could only muster one run. Long again scored the lone Emporia State run, coming home on an RBI single from Price Jacobs after reaching base by getting hit by a pitch.

The Hornets will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday in a single nine inning game in Topeka.  First pitch at Falley Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
