FINAL REGULAR SEASON HOMER
Emporia State takes on Newman in non-conference action in the final regular season game of the season at the Trusler Sports Complex.
LAST AT BAT
Emporia State recorded it's second straight series sweep and moved their winning streak to 11 games as they took both ends of a double header with Northwest Missouri. The Hornets won game one 3-2 and took the nightcap 11-7. With the scored tied at 2-2 Levi Parker had a walk-off RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom fo the seventh of game one. Dakota McKaskle went the distance allowing just the two runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. Dean Long went three for five with six RBI and two runs scored while Parker went two for four with two RBI and two runs scored in the night cap. Brenton Higgins worked the final 2.1 innings, coming in with the potential go ahead run on base, retiring seven straight to pick up his ninth save of the year.
THE COACHES
Bob Fornelli is 434-190 in his 11th season at Emporia State and is 739-300 overall in his 18th year overall. He is the fifth winningest active coach in NCAA Division II and is 19th in total victories. He has led Emporia State to two Division II World Series appearances in eight NCAA Tournaments. Fornelli has taken teams to the NCAA Tournament 13 times, and was the national runner-up in 2009 with Emporia State and in 2000 while at Ft. Hays State.
Zane Heling is 110-117 in his fifth season as head coach at Newman including a 20-19 stint as interim coach of the Jets in 2010.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 30-14 overall and 23-13 in the MIAA. The Hornets have won 11 straight games, their longest winning streak since a 13 game streak in 2011. As a team they are batting .304, have a 4.67 ERA and a .964 team fielding percentage. The pitching staff leads the MIAA and is ranked in the top ten in strikeout to walk ratio. Dean Long leads the MIAA in RBI with 46 and Justin Harris has an MIAA best 34 stolen bases.
SCOUTING THE JETS
Newman is 19-22 on the year heading into Monday night's game at Washburn. They have a .304 team batting average, 5.69 team ERA and a .961 team fielding percentage.
THE SERIES
This will be the 62nd meeting between the two with Emporia State leading 43-18 all-time.
LAST TIME VS. NEWMAN
The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season in a 7-6 ten-inning loss to the Newman Jets. Dean Long drove in a go-ahead run in the top of the tenth inning, but the Jets rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the inning, scoring the game-winning run on a bases loaded walk. Justin Harris was three for six from the plate with two runs scored and one driven in. Levi Parker and Jordan Hodges each doubled while Long finished with two hits as four Hornet batters had multi-hit games.

Emporia State wraps up the regular season with a four game set at Lindenwood. The series begins on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
