March 29, 2014-The Emporia State baseball team split their double header with Ft. Hays State on Saturday in Hays, Kan.  The Hornets won the first game 4-1 before falling 7-6 in game two.

In the matinee the Tigers took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the second inning.  The Hornets took the lead thanks to a Tiger wild pitch and a ground out in the fifth inning and added two more runs in the sixth on a two run double by Aaron Gile.

Jarrod Miller went the distance allowing just one unearned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. Price Jacobs went two for three with a run scored.

Ft. Hays State took a an early lead for the third game of the series in the night cap.  They scored two runs in the first and added another in the second for a 3-0 lead. Levi Parker led off the third with a triple and scored on Toby Cornejo's ground out to get Emporia State on the board. The Tigers took a 5-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the third before the Hornets scored four in the fourth to tie the game. Dean Long had a two run homer to cap the inning for Emporia State.

The Tigers added two runs in the fifth for a 7-5 lead.  The Hornets cut the lead to 7-6 in the sixth but left two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh to give the Tigers the win.

Matt Hinkley took the loss for Emporia State, giving up two runs on one hit with a walk. Wade Hanna went three for four with a run scored while Cornejo and Long each had two RBI on one hit.

Emporia State will go for the series win on Sunday in a single nine inning game at Larks Park.  First pitch is set for 12 noon in Hays, Kan.
