March 21, 2014-The Emporia State baseball team stranded nine runners, all of them in scoring position, in a 9-6 loss to Neb.-Kearney on Friday night at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.

The Hornets gave up four runs on five hits in the top of the first and trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the fourth.  Emporia State got back in the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, all with two outs. Dean Long had the big hit in the inning, a two run single that pulled the Hornets within two runs, and would score on Justin Harris' single to make it 6-5.

Dillon Schroeder hit a two run home run for the Lopers in the fifth to put them back up 8-5. Levi Parker drove in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-6 but it would be the last run for the Hornets.  Neb.-Kearney added an insurance run in the seventh for the final score of 9-6.

Parker was two for five with a run scored and two RBI while Jacobs went three for five with a run scored.  Shawn Talkington took the loss, working 3.0 innings and giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and two strike outs.

The Hornets and Lopers will hook up again on Saturday with a double header scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
