February 21, 2014- The Emporia State Hornets fell 17-16 in their MIAA opener against Central Oklahoma.
The Hornets gave up seven runs in the seventh inning after leading by as many as three runs in the contest. ESU entered the the ninth inning trailing by three runs. Dean Long led off the inning with a double and scored on a Price Jacobs single. The Hornets would add another run on a groundout double play, but left the game tying run on second base.
The two teams combined for 38 hits. Jacobs and Hornet catcher Tory Bell each homers had four RBI in the loss. Long and Levi Parker also hit home runs for the Hornets.
Phillip Wilson had three home run day and drove in seven runs for the Bronchos.
With the loss Emporia State now has an overall record of 3-2. The two teams will play a double header Saturday at Glennen Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
