February 15, 2014 -- Emporia State won its 2014 baseball season opener behind an 11-run, 17-hit attack.

Four Hornet players hit home runs and five players had multi-hit games in an 11-7 win over Southwest Minnesota State.  Leadoff man Justin Harris had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two more. 

Mason Fischer and Tory Bell each had 3 for 4 days at the plate and each hit a home run. Hornet first baseman Dean Long also hit a home run clearing the center field scoreboard.

Hornet starter Dakota McKaskie earned the win, while reliever Brenton Higgins worked a perfect ninth inning to close out the game.

The Mustangs bounced back after the loss to the Hornets with a 7-6 walk off win over the Griffons. 

Patrick Rients finished the game with a pinch hit solo home run for the win. The Griffons (1-2) got a home run from Ryan Denger in the loss.
