October 10, 2014-Grace Linton scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute to give Emporia State a 1-0 victory at Northwest Missouri on Friday evening. The Hornets moved their unbeaten streak to four matches with the win.
Emporia State controlled the ball most of the first half, getting five corner kicks to none for Northwest in the first 45 minutes. The second half saw the Hornets get four corners to the Bearcats one. The lone NWMSU corner came in the 85th minute and was quickly cleared to the other end setting up Linton's score.
It was the third straight shutout for Yadira Rivera as she moved her unscored on streak to 376:54 with her fifth shutout of the season. She had three saves and faced just 11 goals on the day.
Linton's goal was her fifth of the season and matches or exceeds the team leader in each of the last eight years for Emporia State.
The Hornets are back in action on Sunday when they take on Missouri Western. Kick-off from St. Joseph, Mo. is set for 12 noon.
