LONG TIME - NO SEE

Emporia State will face a relatively unfamiliar opponent tonight as they face the Newman Jets at the Emporia HS Pitch at 7:00 p.m. The Hornets and Jets have not played each other since 2007.

LAST TIME OUT

Emporia State opened its MIAA schedule with a 2-0 shutout against the Washburn Ichabods in the "Turnpike Tussle." The Hornets scored a goal in each half.  Kaitlyn Eden opened the scoring with a first half goal, which was followed by McKenzie Koch's second half goal on a header. It was the first time since 2010 that Emporia opened the MIAA  season with a win.

THE COACHES

Bryan Sailer is 10-24-7 in his third season at Emporia State. He is 6-8-4 in non-conference action after going 4-2 outside the MIAA last season. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. This will be his first match against Newman.

Victor Garcia- Bebeck  is 9-12-1 in his 2nd season at Newman. This will be his first match  against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS

The Hornets are 3-3-0 on the season after knocking off Washburn to open the MIAA schedule. Emporia State upset #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime behind goals from Jordan Foutch and Tommi Bouknight. It was the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in the history of the Hornet soccer program. Bouknight leads the team with two goals. Goal Keeper Yadira Rivera has a save percentage of .879 to rank fourth in the MIAA.

KNOW THE FOE

The Newman Jets are 2-2-0 on the season and enter the match coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to Washburn. The Jets are 0-2 on the road in 2013 and have been a solid first half team. They have scored five goals in the first half of play compared to just one in the second. Mei-Mei Senthavy leads the Jets with four goals. Goal Keeper Haley Borchers has a .750 save percentage.

LAST TIME VS. NEWMAN

Emporia State and Newman last played on September 29, 2007 with the Jets earning a 3-1 victory. The Hornet lone goal in that 2007 match was scored by Amanda Miano.

SERIES RECORD

This is the fourth meeting between Emporia State and Newman. Newman leads the series 2-1-0. The Hornets last defeated Newman 3-0 in 2005.
