Hornets take five setter from Winona State, fall to nationally ranked Ferris State

September 14, 2013-For the second straight day Emporia State worked a split at the Peggy Martin Classic in Warrensburg, Mo.  The Hornets opened with a five set victory over Winona State before falling to nationally ranked Ferris State in three sets.

Josie Williams had a team high 15 kills on .314 hitting in Emporia State's come from behind 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13, 15-13 win over Winona State in the first match of the day.  Carly Spicer had 13 kills on .394 hitting and Paige Vanderpool had 11 kills to also hit double figures.  Kelly Holden had 23 digs for the Hornets.

Emporia State was out hit .387 to .230 in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 loss to #23 Ferris State in the night cap. The three some of Courtney Haring, Carly Spicer and Torre Rupe combined for 30 kills on .458 hitting but the rest of the team hit just .016 as the Hornets fell in straight sets for the first time this season.

Emporia State will make it's home debut on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they play host to #6 Washburn.  First serve of the Turnpike Tussle is set for 7 p.m. in White Auditorium.
