Saturday Sweep over Lions for #19 Hornet Volleyball

Emporia State takes down Arkansas-Fort Smith in three sets on Saturday afternoon

October 10, 2026 - Emporia State volleyball picked up the Saturday sweep on the road against Arkansas-Fort Smith while holding the Lions to just .093 in attack.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one started with the Hornets and Lions going back-and-forth until the midway point of the set with Emporia State leading 12-10. However, Arkansas-Fort Smith responded with four straight to force an Emporia State timeout. The Hornets eventually fought back to take the lead in the frame on their way to a 25-21 set one win.

In the second set, Emporia State dominated throughout on their way to a 25-9 win in the second frame. The Hornets converted 12 of 25 attacks without an error to hit .444 in the set while holding the Lions to a -.133 mark as Emporia State tallied six blocks to stifle the attack.

Emporia State again found themselves in a battle in set three, as the Lions eventually led 14-11 over the Hornets. However, the Hornets started to gain momentum in the set, as they scored six of the next seven to take a 17-15 advantage and force a timeout from the hosts.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit .244 while holding the Lions to just .093 in attack. Lavra Krizanic led all players with 17 kills on .378 hitting, with 14  of her kills coming in the first two frames. Piper Bahr joined Krizanic in double figures with ten kills of her own. Brailee Bogle recorded 35 assists and 11 digs.

On defense, Miyu Tsurumaki had 21 digs while Mia Frisbie had four blocks in the middle.

UP NEXT
Emporia State will travel to Maryville, Mo. for the MIAA Midseason Tournament. Their first of two matches will be against Northwest Missouri on Friday, October 16. First serve between the Hornets and Bearcats is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
