October 9, 2026 - Emporia State volleyball took down Northeastern State in three sets Friday night in the first ever meeting between the Hornets and Riverhawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State gained early control of the match in set one as they took a 12-5 advantage which forced a timeout by the Riverhawks. The Hornets continued to expand on their lead in the first frame on their way to a 25-13 set one win. In the first frame, Emporia State hit .333 while holding Northeastern State to a -.038 mark.
Northeastern State answered back early in set two as they jumped in front of the Hornets 9-5, however, Emporia State found their footing in set two and responded with seven of the next eight points to force a Riverhawks timeout with the Hornets ahead 12-10. The momentum continued to stay on the side of Emporia State throughout set two as the Hornets went ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-18 win in the second frame.
Set three began with four straight points by Emporia State and eventually Northeastern State called timeout with Emporia State leading the Riverhawks 11-3. The Hornets continued to inch their way closer to the sweep as they led the hosts 20-11 late into the set. Despite the large lead, Northeastern State fought back to trim the gap to 23-20. Emporia State finally halted the rally to seal set three 25-20 to clinch the sweep.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit .229 in the match while holding the Riverhawks to just .068 at the net. Piper Bahr led all players with 14 kills while hitting .379. Brailee Bogle ended the match with 27 assists.
