Monday began a five part series of position breakdowns for the Hornet football team.  Thursday features the defensive secondary while the linebackers and defensive line will wrap up the series on Friday.

SECONDARY
All-MIAA pick Chris Poston (Sr./Oklahoma City, Okla.) returns for his senior season and has been on several preseason All-American watch lists. He had four interceptions last season with a season long 47 yard return at Nebraska-Kearney. An honorable-mention All-MIAA pick as a true freshman, he played in just three games as a sophomore and sat out the next two years due to injury. Kadeem Satchell (Jr./Princeton, Texas) had 45 tackles last season including a career high ten stops against Missouri Western. Former starters Julian Dozier (Sr./Round Rock, Texas) and Gary Fortune (Sr./Indian Head, Md.) will be coming back from injuries this season. Dozier saw action in the first two games before suffering a broken foot. Fortune injured his knee and missed the final five games of the season. Deveon Dinwiddie (Jr./Hutchinson, Kan.) should make an impact after transferring from NCAA Division I-FCS Champion North Dakota State. The rest of the defensive backfield will be young with Jarett Srode (So./St. Charles, Mo.) one of the few to have game experience on the defensive side of the ball with the Hornets last season. Brandon Gentz (So./Emporia, Kan.) moves to the defense after playing offense in all 12 games last season for the Hornets.

Emporia State will look to build on last year's ten win season and Kanza Bowl win with 14 returning starters and a total of 20 players that have started at least one game.  Preseason All-Americans Chris Poston and Jordan Sanders anchor the defense while four of five starters return on the offensive line.

The Hornets will open the season on Thursday, September 5 at Ft. Hays State.
