April 13, 2013-Emporia State saw their eight game winning streak come to an end in the first game and then came from behind in game two to earn a split with Northwest Missouri on Saturday afternoon.  The Hornets lost 5-1 in game one and Eric Dawson hit a walk-off RBI single in the tenth inning to secure a 6-5 win in game two.

The Bearcats jumped on top early in the first game, scoring a pair of runs on two hits. Emporia State would cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Tyler Spencer hit a one out single and went to second on a balk. He came arouund to score on Andrew Blackwell's two out single to center.  Jordan Slade followed with a single and Blake Sturgeon walked to load the bases and chase Northwest Missouri starter Ryker Fox.  Nathaniel Horton came on in relief and Aaron Rea just missed a single when his line drive was snared by Cameron Bedard at second.

Northwest Missouri scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth on Steven Garber's two out, two RBI double. Keith Picht came on in relief of Dakota McKaskle and got a strike out to end the inning.  In the seventh Brandon Huske hit a one out double off of Dylan McEwin, who started the inning for Emporia State, and then went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a passed ball.

Jordan Slade was two for three while Blackwell went one for three with the lone RBI for the Hornets.

Eric Swain homered to lead off the second and give Northwest Missouri a 1-0 lead in the night cap. Emporia State took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third. Todd Reller and Luke Slagle hit back to back singles to start the inning.  With two outs Sturgeon singled both of them in and was thrown out trying stretch his hit into a double.  Swain put the Bearcats back on top with a two run homer in the top of the fourth.  Rea tied the score with a lead off home run in the bottom of the fourth.  Eric Dawson followed with a single and after a sac moved him to second went to third on David Richards single. Dawson then came home on a double steal to give Emporia State a 4-3 lead.

An unearned run in the top of the fifth tied it for NWMSU. They took the lead in the sixth when Swain doubled and scored on a single by Derek Meyer.  With the Hornets trailing by a run, Richards led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left center.  He was sacrificed to second and scored when Blackwell singled inside the bag at third base.

Shawn Talkington came in to pitch the tenth and set the Bearcats down in order.  Sturgeon led off the bottom of the inning with a four pitch walk and then stole second. With one out Dawson singled into right field to give the Hornets a walk off win.

Dawson was two for five with a run and an RBI while Sturgeon was one for four with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.  Talkingto pitched a perfect tenth to get the win.

The final game of the series is set of Sunday at 12 noon.  It will be Dollar Day at Trusler with $1 admission and $1 hot dogs.  It is also Applebee's Autograph Day with all spring sports scheduled to be on hand at 11:30 a.m.
