March 3, 2013-Emporia State got a walk off win in game two of a double header with Lindenwood that was moved to Pryor, Okla. to make sure the games were played. The Hornets won game two 6-5 in 12 innings after dropping a 3-1 decision in the first game.
Aaron Rea gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the matinee when he led off the second inning with a double, went to third on a sac bunt and scored on a wild pitch. Dakota McKaskle made the lead hold up until the seventh, allowing seven hits with no walks and five strike outs in the first 6.0 innings.
Lindenwood scored three unearned runs in the seventh to take the win. Ryan Light led off by reaching on an error and Mike Wilson followed with a single. Kyle Leslie then laid down a squeeze bunt to tie the score. McKaskle got a ground out and then was relieved by Zach Gove who got a comebacker to the mound for the second out. After intentionally walking Wade Rothermich to load the bases, Eddie Sutton reached on an error that scored two runs to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. The Hornets got the tying run in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the seventh but could not push a run across.
McKaskle took the loss despite not giving up an earned run. He scattered eight hits with no walks or hit batters with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Dylan Terrell went the distance for Lindenwood, giving up just two hits with a walk, three hit batters and three strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
Brenton Higgins came on in relief in the nightcap and threw 9.1 innings of shut out ball for the Hornets. Emporia State took the lead in the bottom of the first when Luke Slagle doubled in Jordan Slade and Skylar Angood singled in Ashton McCoy. Lindenwood quickly answered with two runs in the top of the second. Eric Dawson and McCoy both drove in runs in the bottom of the second to put the Hornets back on top 4-2. The Lions took the lead at 5-4 with three unearned runs in the top of the third to chase starter Garrett Bane and bring in Higgins.
McCoy reached on an error to lead off the seventh. After a hit batter and walk loaded the bases, he then scored on a double play to tie the score at 5-5. No one scored over the next four innings. McCoy led off the 12th with a single, the fifth time he reached base in the game and went to second on Slagle's single. A sac bunt moved them upa base and then with two outs Blake Sturgeon worked a pinch hit walk to load the bases. Todd Schultz was then hit by a pitch to drive in the game winning run.
McCoy went two for five with three runs scored and an RBI while Schultz and Dawson both had two hits, a run and an RBI. Higgins picked up the win, allowing no runs on five hits with four strike outs and three walks with two of them being intentional.
The Hornets and Lions will wrap up their three game series on Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Pryor HS in Pryor, Okla.

The series was moved to Pryor from the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia when snow left over from last week's blizzard made fields in Emporia and St. Charles, Mo. unplayable.
