March 29, 2013-The Emporia State baseball team split a pair of games at Neb.-Kearney on Friday afternoon.  The Hornets won game one 6-2 and fell 13-4 in game two.

Dakota McKaskle went the distance in the matinee allowing two runs on seven hits with six strike outs for the Hornets.  Emporia State scored three runs in the top of the first to get things started and would add single runs in the second and fourth to go ahead 5-0.  The Lopers got a single run in the fourth and each team scored a single run in the seventh.

Blake Sturgeon was four for four with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Hornet offense.

Neb.-Kearney scored first in the night cap with two runs in the third inning and then added five runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.  Emporia State responded with a three run homer by Eric Dawson in the top of the fifth only to see the Lopers answer with two more in the bottom of the inning. UNK went ahead 11-3 with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Hornets got one run in the eighth to pull within 11-4 only to see the Lopers add two more in the bottom of the inning for the final score.

Dawson was one for three with three RBI and a run scored on his home run.  Jordan Slade was two for three with an RBI, a run scored and two walks to reach base four times.  Matt Hinkley took the loss after giving up seven runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.

The two teams play the rubber game of the series on Saturday.  First pitch from Kearney is set for 1 p.m.
