October 27, 2013 - Emporia State soccer knocked off Missouri Southern 6-1 on senior day at the Emporia HS Pitch.  It's the highest goal total for the Hornets since a 6-4 victory against Washburn on September 17, 2003.
McKenzie Koch opened the scoring with a goal from 15 yards out just over 10 minutes into the match.  Koch's goal was her fourth of the season which now leads the team.
Shannon Thomas then scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. The first goal came off an assist from Bridget Wages, the second off a deflection.
Wages beat the Missouri Southern goal keeper at the 42:13 mark to close out the first half scoring.
Yadira Rivera shutout the Lions with one save in her 45 minutes of play. Senior Melanie Nuessen played the second half in goal for the Hornets.
Jordan Foutch and Wages added second half goals for Emporia State. The Hornets took 10 shots on goal in the match while the Lions had just three.
With the win the Hornets improved to 8-6-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the MIAA.
The Hornets eight wins are the most in program history since the 2004 squad finished at 10-8-2. Emporia State has two road matches left in the regular season, which gives the Hornet the chance to tie that 10-win mark.
