MEET ME IN ST. CHARLES

Emporia State faces Lindenwood this weekend in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions are tied for first place in the MIAA with Central Missouri with 13 points.  The Hornets have a 3-2-2 record in the MIAA and are in fourth place with 11 points.

LAST TIME OUT

Emporia State got a goal from Bridget Wages, her first of the season, to defeat Missouri Western  1-0 on October 13. Melanie Nuessen, a senior from Americus, Kan.. earned the win in her second start of the season making three saves to shutout the Griffons.

THE COACHES

Bryan Sailer is 13-26-9 in his third season at Emporia State and ranks No. 2 on the Hornets all time win list for Women's Soccer coaches. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. He is 0-0-1 against the Lions.

Lauri Kaminski is in her ninth season as head coach at Lindenwood. She currently has a coaching record of 84-61-15 at Lindenwood. She is 0-0-1 against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS

The Hornets are 6-5-2 overall. The Hornets are 1-0-1 against nationally ranked teams this season. Emporia State upset #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime earlier in the season. The Hornets then played #5 ranked Central Missouri to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. The win over Regis was the first victory over a nationally ranked team in the history of the program. Emporia State has shutout opponents seven times  in 2013 which ties a program record for shutouts in a season with the 10-8-2 squad from 2004.

KNOW THE FOE

Lindenwood is 7-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the MIAA.  Freshman Kat Roe leads the team with five goals scored. Senior goal keeper Bailey Tracy has a goals against average of 0.71 and a .887 save percentage. The Lions have out-scored their opponents 19-9 in 2013.

LAST TIME VS. LINDENWOOD

Emporia State and Lindenwood played to a scoreless tie on September 25, 2011. Hornet goal keeper Nikki Schmitz had 11 saves in the double overtime tie. The two teams were scheduled to meet in 2012, but that game was canceled due to lightning and was not made up.

IN THE MIAA

Hornet freshman goal keeper Yadira Rivera is second in the MIAA in saves with 70, one save behind Lindenwood's Bailey Tracey. As a team the Hornets lead the MIAA with 79 total saves.

UP NEXT

The Hornets will play a road match against Washburn at 6:00  p.m. on Oct. 23. Emporia State defeated Washburn 2-0 earlier in the season at the Emporia HS Pitch.
