#22 ESU BASEBALL FALLS TO NEWMAN IN PITCHERS DUEL

Hornets fall 2-1 in a game that see's only 15 total hits.

April 3, 2012 -- The #22 Emporia State baseball team scored in the top of the first inning, but could not hold on falling 2-1 in a pitchers duel to Newman. The Jets took advantage of an ESU error in the sixth inning to score the go-ahead run after ESU took a lead in the bottom of the first.

At the plate Eric Dawson was the only Hornet with multiple hits going two for four and driving in the games only run. Dorain Williams went one for three on the afternoon, reaching base twice and scoring ESU's only run. Joe Vaskas, Joe Kornbrust and Joe Hosey also each contributed a hit for ESU.

On the mound Brandon Faulkner worked six innings allowing only one earned run and striking out five while walking none. He falls to 5-1 on the season as he allowed just eight hits scattered over the six frames. Keith Picht pitched the final three innings of the game allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The Hornets will face Central Oklahoma on April 5,6 and 7 for a three game series. Each day will feature a single nine inning game starting on Thursday and Friday both scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch, and Saturday's game scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
