April 28, 2012 -- The Emporia State baseball team got only 13 hits over the double header as #6 Central Missouri had two pitchers throw complete games. The Hornets fell 6-0 in game one and fell 4-1 in the second game.
In game one UCM struck first in the second inning plating three runs to take a 3-0 lead. UCM would then tack on three runs in the top of the sixth as ESU did not have a runner mak it past second base in the game.
At the plate Joe Kornbrust went two for three in the ballgame and Jordan Slade went two for two after coming on early due to injury.
On the mound Brandon Faulkner threw 5.2 innings and struck out four allowing six runs and falling to 7-2 on the season.
In game two ESU took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on an unearned run taking advantage of a UCM error. The Mules would answer to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning and would tack on three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good.
At the plate Rudy Weiser went two for three and scored the games lone run. Eric Dawson was two for four on the afternoon with an RBI single in the third inning.
Derek Brooks went seven innings with four strikeouts allowing only five hits and four earned runs. He fell to 6-2 on the season.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow with a scheduled 12 noon first pitch from Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
