April 21, 2012 -- The Emporia State baseball team's offense scored a combined 32 runs while they allowed only two in a double header sweep of Lincoln on the road. The Hornets took game one 17-0 before taking the second game by a 15-2 score.

In the first game the Hornets jumped out in the third inning scoring five runs to take the lead. They would then scored 10 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to roll to the 17-0 victory.

At the plate Joe Vaskas was three for three with his seventh home run and game high six runs batted in. Joe Hosey went two for four from the plate with two home runs and five runs batted in while scoing three runs. Eric Dawson was two for four with four runs scored and two RBI. Zack Carlson, Joe Kornbrust and Rudy Weiser also added single RBI for the Hornets as every ESU starter had a hit or a run batted in during the game.

On the mound Brandon Faulkner went 6.0 innings allowing just three hits and no runs. He struck out one and walked only one to pick up his sixth victory of the season. Drew Smith worked one inning of scoreless relief striking out one.

In game two ESU put up six runs over the first two innings and did not look back as they pulled out a 15-2 run rule victory. The Hornets big inning came during the fifth when they plated five runs as ESU had seven extra base hits in the game.

At the plate Zark Carlson went three for four and drove in a season high five runs. Eric Dawson was three for five with two runs scored and three runs driven in. Joe Vaskas went three for four scoring three runs and adding two RBI. Joe Kornbrust and Blake Brisson each recorded two hits and two runs driven in. Dorain Williams was three for four with three runs scored and Rudy Weiser added an RBI for the second straight game.

On the mound Derek Brooks worked five innings allowing just three hits and striking out two on the way to his sixth victory of the season.

The same two teams will square off tomorrow for a scheduled 12 noon first pitch to a double header.
