ESU takes advantage of five Tiger errors to earn victory

March 30, 2012 -- The Emporia State baseball team trailed 7-3 at one point in the game, but scored runs in five of eight innings to pick up the 13-8 come from behind victory. The Hornets took advantage of five Tiger errors as they scored five unearned runs.

Fort Hays State struck first, getting one run in the first inning. ESU answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers would then errupt for six runs in the top of the second to take a 7-3 lead. ESU would answer with three in the bottom half of the inning,  then tie the game with a single tally in the third inning. Fort Hays would regain the lead on a Ryan Busboom home run in the top of the fifth. Beau Poston homered, driving in two in the bottom half of the fifth to put the Hornets ahead for good. ESU would add three runs, taking advantage of two FHSU errors to close out the seventh inning.

At the plate Ashton McCoy led the Hornets going three for four with four runs driven in and three runs scored. Poston finished two for five with three runs driven in and a single tally scored. Dorain Williams went two for four scoring three runs. Rudy Weiser went two for four in the game with two runs scored. Eric Dawson was one for four with one RBI and one run scored.

On the mound Brandon Faulkner was knocked out of the game in the second inning. Keith Picht came out of the pen with his strongest performance of the year going 7.1 inning striking out two while allowing just one run on five hits. He picked up his second win of the season as he made his team leading fifth appearance out of the bullpen.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow for a scheduled double header at 1 p.m. from Glennen Field and the Trusler Sports Complex.
