March 2, 2012 -- The #8 Emporia State baseball team pounded out 30 hits on the day as they swept a double header on the road at Southwest Baptist. ESU held the Bearcats to only 12 hits total on the day in a 9-2, 10-4 sweep in Bolivar, Mo.

In game one ESU got three runs in the first inning sparked by a Dorain Williams home run and did not look back as they rolled to a 9-2 victory. The Hornets big inning came in the fifth as they scored four runs on four hits. Williams went two for four in the first game driving in two and scoring one.

Joe Vaskas went two for three and added three runs driven in. Eric Dawson continued his hot hitting as he went three for four with two runs scored and one driven in. Joe Hosey added two runs batted in as eh went one for four with a two run double. Joe Kornbrust stole a base and added an RBI in the ESU effort.

Brandon Faulkner threw a complete game five hitter allowing two runs while striking out two to pick up his second win the of the season.

In game two of the double dip the Hornets grabbed four runs in the first two innings and rolled to a 10-4 win. ESU added four in the fourth innning as ESU had 16 hits, only three of which went for extra bases. The Hornets also took advantage of four SBU errors.

Williams completed a strong day going four for four and scoring three runs for the Hornets and stealing a base. Jordan Slade went three for five with two runs scored as he hit two doubles in the game. Dawson went two for five in the second game diring in two runs. Kornbrust was two for five and added three runs driven in. Ashton McCoy was two for four with two runs scored and a run driven in. Tyler Spencer, Zack Carlson and Hosey also added single RBI for ESU.

Derek Brooks moved to 2-0 on the season pitching seven innings allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out three. Shawn Talkington pitched an inning of hitless relief and also had two strikeouts.

The Hornets and Bearcats will face off again on March 3 in a double header scheduled for a 12 noon first pitch from Bolivar, Mo.
