March 16, 2012 -- The #21 Emporia State baseball team gave up 18 runs in the final three innings as Pittsburg State came from behind for a 23-10 win. The Hornets committed four errors which led to 11 unearned runs for PSU.

The Gorillas jumped on top first as they scored a tally in the top of the first inning. The next four runs would come from the Hornets though as they got home runs from Joe Kornbrust and Zack Carlson. Pittsburg State would get within striking distance adding two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. They would then score five in the seventh to take the lead for good as they put up 13 runs in the top of the ninth.

At the plate Kornbrust and Carlson both finished two for four with two RBI and two runs scored. Ashton McCoy was two for five with two runs scored. Eric Dawson went three for four on the evening with one run scored. Rudy Weiser finished two for four with one run scored. Beau Poston also added two runs batted in to the Hornet effort.

On the mound Brandon Faulkner pitched 5.1 innings and left with ESU leading. Zach Gove earned his second loss of the season as he gave up four runs, only two of which were earned.

The same two teams will face off for a double-header on March 17 with a scheduled 1 p.m. first pitch.
