The Hornets will travel to Jason Gym on Feb. 18 looking to snap their losing streak and take one step closer to the MIAA Tournament. The Hornets are currently deadlocked with Truman and Lincoln in the MIAA standings and for the eighth seed in the postseason tournament. 

LAST TIMEOUT 

ESU could not overcome 18 turnovers in a 61-44 loss at Pittsburg State. The Hornets tied the rebounding battle, but PSU hit ten more field goals in the loss. Chris SIghts was the only Hornet in double figures scoring 13 points and a team high eight rebounds. Tola Lawal added eight points while Travis Dykman had four assists.

THE COACHES

Shaun Vandiver is 8-15 in his first year at ESU. The former NBA round draft pick spent the last ten years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level, most recently at Boise State University. As a player he led Hutchinson CC to the 1988 NJCAA National Championship before earning first-team All-Big 8 honors at Colorado. He is 1-0 in his career against Pittsburg State. 

John Redmond is 12-64 in his third season with the Blue Tigers. He is 0-3 against the Hornets in his career. 

SCOUTING THE BLUE TIGERS     

Lincoln is 4-19 and are 4-13 and tied for eighth place in the MIAA. They are led by Cedric Ridle who is averaging 17.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and is the Blue Tiger’s only double figure scorer. 

SERIES HISTORY

This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams with ESU holding a 13-5 overall advantage. The Hornets have won five straight meetings, their longest streak against the Blue Tigers. They have won two straight in Jason Gym. 

LAST TIME VS. LU      

ESU got 13 points and 13 rebounds from Troy Pierce as they rolled to a 61-39 victory over Lincoln. The Hornets shot .521 and outrebounded the Blue Tigers 42-26 in their most lopsided win of the season. In addition to Pierce’s double-double he was perfect from the field hitting six of six shots. Antonio DiMaria finished the game with 10 points and added five rebounds and five assists while Tola Lawal added 13 points for the Hornets. 

UP NEXT

The Hornets will play their final contest at home as they welcome Washburn for the Turnpike Tussle. Tip-off on Senior Night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
