Season Comes to an End for Emporia State with Loss to Northwest Missouri

Freshman Jack Weigus leads ESU with 15 points in loss

February 28, 2026-Emporia State could never find an offensive rhythm in an 81-56 loss to Northwest Missouri that ended the Hornets season.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
On Senior Day a pair of seniors gave Emporia State an early lead as Mason Wujek hit one of two free throws and Mason Jones connected on a three-pointer to make if 4-0 just 67 seconds into the game. Northwest Missouri answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take the lead for good.  An 11-0 run put the Bearcats up 27-11 with 9:24 left in the half and they would take a 47-26 lead into the locker room.
The lead reached as high as 28 points in the second half before settling into the 81-56 final score.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Freshman Jack Weigus scored 15 points and was the only Hornet in double figures as Emporia State shot just 34.4% from the field and 28% from the three point line.  Olafur Styrmisson finished with nine rebounds.
