October 30, 2012-Emporia State led through the first two media timeouts before #7 Kansas went on a 22-1 run to take the lead for good in an 88-54 Jayhawk victory in Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday.  It was just the fourth time in 21 exhibition games against NCAA Division II teams that Kansas failed to score 90 points.

Ben McLemore dunked on a back door layup just ten seconds into the game before the Hornets went on a 10-2 run capped by a three pointer from Gavin Brown with 17:42 left in the half.  A Terrence Moore layup gave Emporia State a 12-6 lead with 15:35 left and the Hornets led 14-12 when the second media timeout came at 11:51 remaining.

The Jayhawks then went on a 7-0 run ignited by back to back threes from Elijah Johnson and McLemore.  They would stretch the run to 22-1 before Tre Boutillier broke the run with a lay up at the 6:04 mark. Kansas outscored Emporia State 22-4 in the first 20 minutes and held a 19-8 advantage off the bench as they went to the locker room up 42-21.

Kansas scored the first five points of the second half to go up 47-21 before Brown snapped the run with a three pointer at the 17:53 mark.  The Jayhawks would eventually stretch the lead to 37 with 2:03 left before settling into the 88-54 final.
After outrebounding Tulsa on Saturday, the Hornets were outrebounded 43-23 by the Jayhawks and were held to .358 shooting from the field. 

Brown had 14 points and six rebounds to lead the Hornets and was joined in double figures by Moore with ten points.  Ten of the 11 Hornets that played scored.

Emporia State is back in action on Sunday, November 4 at Kansas State in the third and final exhibition against Division I competition.  Tip-off in Bramlage Coliseum is set for 1:00 p.m.

NOTES:
This is the sixth time Emporia State has played Kansas in exhibition action and the 84 points are the fewest allowed in the six games.
This was Emporia State’s seventh contest against a ranked NCAA Division I opponent in their last nine games against D-I foes.
