October 28, 2012- Senior goalkeeper Nikki Schmitz made four saves in the Emporia State soccer team's 1-0 defeat to Central Oklahoma on Senior Day at ESU Pitch in Emporia, Kan.
Schmitz, a second team All-MIAA selection a season ago, was one of three seniors honored before the game, along with top scorer Mindi Lozenski (four goals, one assist), and midfielder/defender Lindsey Allen.
Emporia State had three shots in the game, with Tommi Bouknight leading the team with two. Allen had the other shot for the Hornets.
The game was characterized by both teams trying to gain control of the midfield, but there were relatively few chances created. Emporia State and Central Oklahoma combined for five shots in a scoreless first half.
In the second half, the Bronchos created more chances, holding an 8-2 advantage in shots and broke through in the 80th minute. Brittni Walker pounced on a loose ball following a Central Oklahoma throw-in and beat Schmitz from six yards out for the decisive goal.
Emporia State concluded 2012 with a record of 4-11-2, 0-9-2 MIAA. Central Oklahoma improved to 13-1-3, 8-0-3 MIAA.
