LADY LIONS AND BULLDOGS COME CALLING
Emporia State hosts a pair of conference games versus MIAA foes Lindenwood and Truman at ESU Pitch.
 
LAST TIME OUT 
Tommi Bouknight scored her first career goal for Emporia State as the Hornets lost in stunning fashion as Missouri Western’s Abby Widrig scored thirty seconds into overtime to give the Griffons the 2-1 at ESU Pitch in Emporia. Mindi Lozenski led the team with five shots, two on target. Emporia State also possessed a 16-2 advantage in corner kicks, with 10 in the second half, including three in the final minute of regulation.
Emporia State soccer team fell in a close contest to Northwest Missouri 1-0 after Taylor Sellars scored on a long-range shot in the 80th minute at ESU Pitch in Emporia. Melanie Nuessen got the start in goal for the Hornets and made four saves. Mallory Walden led the Hornets with three shots.
 
THE COACHES?
Bryan Sailer is 6-18-6 in his second season at Emporia State. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named  Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record.
Laurie Kaminski is in her eighth season as head coach of Lindenwood with an overall record of 76-52-14.
Mike Cannon is in his 20th season as head coach of Truman with a career record of 262-92-38.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State and Lindenwood played to a tie in their only other meeting.
Truman leads the all-time series with Emporia State 20-0-2.
 
LAST TIME VS. OPPONENTS
ESU and Lindenwood played to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 25 in Emporia. Nikki Schmitz earned her third shutout of the season as she stopped a match high 11 Lion shots. The Emporia State soccer team allowed ten shots on goal, but only one tally in a 1-0 loss at Truman on October 27. Natalie Hoernig had a season high nine saves.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Lindenwood lost its last game on the road at Truman 5-0 on Oct. 7. Bailey Cody and Courtney Bresnahan share the team lead in goals with five. Cody also leads the team in assists with four. Goalkeeper Jade Davis has made 62 saves on the year.
Truman defeated Lindenwood at home by a score of 5-0 on Oct. 7. Alexis Heffernan earned MIAA Player of the Week honors after scoring a hat trick. Melanie Hunt assisted on four of the five goals. Trisha Shoemaker leads Truman with nine goals and 21 points. Goalkeeper Emily Bozdeck has a 0.57 goals against average and eight shutouts this season.
 
SHOTSTOPPER SHOWDOWN
ESU Pitch will feature three of the conference’s leading goalkeepers this weekend. Emporia State’s Nikki Schmitz has compiled a 1.29 goals against average, sixth among goalkeepers with at least 10 starts. Lindenwood’s Jade Davis leads the MIAA with 6.89 saves per game. Truman’s Emily Bozdeck leads the MIAA with eight shutouts.
 
DEFENSE UP AGAINST TOP SCORER
The Hornets’ defense will face a Lindenwood team averaging 1.91 goals per game and a Truman team that possesses the conference’s top scorer, Trisha Shoemaker. The Hornets held Northwest Missouri, one of the top offenses in the MIAA, to only 10 shots, well below its average of 17.67 per game last weekend.

Emporia State returns to the road to play Drury in Springfield, Mo. on Oct. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
