June 16, 2011 – Emporia State Pitcher David Holman signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners. He is the 12th Hornet player to sign with a major league baseball organization since Bob Fornelli took over as head coach.
He went 1-0 on the season for the Hornets in nine appearances pitching 16.0 innings and striking out 13 opposing hitters. He earned his win against Missouri Western striking out two in ESU’s 11-7 victory. He will join ESU’s Dillon Hazlett in the Mariner’s organization. Hazlett was drafted in the 20th round of the first year player draft.
Holman is the son of Brian Holman who pitched five seasons in the major leagues. He was the Seattle Mariners opening day starter during the 1991 season.
The Hornets went 43-12 and won the MIAA Championship advancing to their eighth straight NCAA Division II Regional.
