                     October 2, 2011 -- The Emporia State soccer team led the match after scoring early, but could not overcome two late first half goals by Missouri Southern in a 2-1 loss. The Hornets outshot the Lions 19-8 and 10-5 on goal, but MSSU got nine saves from goalie Abby Risner. 
ESU struck first in the 11th minute as Catie Hyde barried a pass from Mindi Lozenski in the right corner of the net. MSSU would answer in the 32nd minute as Megan Stueve scored on an unassisted goal in the ESU box. They would get the go ahead goal when Alicia Vonderheid popped up a pass that was headed in by Kelly White. 
For Hyde it was her second goal of the season, for Lozenski her first assist. Nikki Schmitz made two saves as she had her scoreless streak snapped by the Lions. 
ESU will travel to Northwest Missouri on Oct. 4 for their MIAA road opener. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff from Maryville, Mo.
