September 22, 2011 -- The Emporia State soccer team got a goal in the 84th minute as they earned their first win of the season with a 1-0 tally against Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle. The win broke a 12 game winning streak by the Lady Blues in the series.
ESU got on the board in the 84th minute as Catie Hyde scored her first goal of the season. Shannon Thomas chipped the corner kick from Sarah Anderson to Hyde and she found the right corner of the net. ESU had 13 shots, most of which came during the second half though they finished with eight shots on goal to match Washburn.
In between the pipes Nikki Schmitz earned her third career shutout and second of the season as she picked up her first victory. She made eight saves including two diving saves in the second half to give ESU the victory.
The Hornets will face Lindenwood on Sept. 25 from ESU Pitch with a scheduled kickoff of 1 p.m.
