ESU uses 11-3 run to earn 59-57 victory

December 3, 2011 -- Chris Sights hit a three-pointer with 22 seconds to play to cap off an 11-3 run for ESU in a 59-57 come from behind victory at Missouri Western. The Hornets held the Griffons without a field goal for the final 8:02 after MWSU had taken a seven point lead.

The Hornets took an early lead and led by as much as eight in the first half before Missouri Western cut the ESU lead to 26-25 at the break. The Hornets hit the first bucket of the second half before Missouri Western took their first lead since hitting the first bucket of the game. The Griffons would lead or be tied until the 0:22 mark when the Hornets would regain the lead for good. Troy Pierce rebounded a Lavonte Douglas miss with three seconds to play and hit one of two free throws to ice the win.

Derrell Conner led the Hornets with 15 points on the afternoon. Troy Pierce had his second double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds. Chris Sights and Tola Lawal added 11 points for the Hornets in the effort.

The Hornets will return to action on Dec. 7 when they step out of conference play to face Newman. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from W. L. White Auditorium.
