Abby Smith enters her third season as an assistant coach for the Hornets.  In her two years as an assistant coach, she has helped the Hornets to a 87-34 record.  Prior to being an assistant, Smith was a four year outfielder for the Emporia State Softball program from 2008-2011, helping the Hornets to the NCAA Division II Championship game in 2008 and four straight NCAA Regional Tournaments.  During her playing career, she was a two time All-MIAA selection Honorable Mention ( 2008) and First Team ALL-MIAA DP as a senior (2011). 

A native of Liberty, MO, Smith earned her bachelor'sdegree in sociology from Emporia State in 2011.  She is currently working on her master's degree in Clinical Counseling.
