Landon Boss as the Emporia State linebacker has been named the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week presented by FieldTurf following the Hornets 21-10 win at then #10 Pittsburg State. It is the fourth straight conference player of the week for Boss dating back to last season and his fifth career award at Emporia State.
Boss had seven tackles, 2.5 for a loss, an interception, a pass break up and a QB hurry as the Hornets held Pitt State to 279 yards of total offense in a 21-10 win. On the Gorillas second drive he had a tackle for a nine yard loss on third down, forcing PSU to punt from their own ten yard line. ESU used the resulting short field to score the first touchdown of the game. Pitt State took their first drive of the second half down to the Emporia State ten yard line when Boss intercepted a pass to end the threat. He then had three of his seven tackles in the fourth quarter as the Hornets held on for the 21-10 victory, their second straight win in Carnie Smith Stadium.
The senior from Osage City, Kan. is leading the MIAA and ranked 13th in the nation in total tackles and is second in the league in tackles for loss.
Boss was a consensus All-American and the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year last season as well as a First-Team Academic All-American.
The now #24 Hornets will make their home debut on Saturday, September 12 against #20 Michigan Tech. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in the first collegiate game on Blackcreek Diesel Field at Welch Stadium.
