September 5, 2026 - Emporia State volleyball capped off an unbeaten USF Classic by taking down Upper Iowa in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start for the Hornets in set one, as the Peacocks opened with four straight. Emporia State eventually came back with seven of nine to take their first lead at 7-6. The first frame continued to be tightly contested throughout with neither team leading by more than two points until the end. Emporia State and Upper Iowa were knotted at 24-24 before kills by Brailee Bogle and Lavra Krizanic sealed the first set 26-24.
Emporia State flipped the opening from set one in their favor, as the Hornets were the side to score four straight and in turn used the momentum to control set two. The Hornets led by as much as 12 with a 19-7 advantage, and eventually closed it out with a 25-17 win.Â
Upper Iowa held an early 6-4 lead in set three, but after a 7-1 scoring run by Emporia State, the Hornets were able to seize control on their way to completing the sweep with a 25-18 set three win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit .282 in the match, which included a .433 mark in set two while holding Upper Iowa to just .131 in attack and a .000 mark in the final frame.Â
The Hornets were led in attack by Lavra Krizanic who hit .306 with 14 kills, while Piper Bahr and Jade Xu each had six of their own. Brailee Bogle had 28 assists in the match and was tied with Miyu Tsurumaki as the two both had 13 digs. Bogle and Frisbie both had three total blocks, and they were two of seven players that recorded a block on the day.

Emporia State will travel south on the Turnpike on Tuesday, September 8 as they play a non conference match against Newman in Wichita, Kan. First serve between the Hornets and Jets is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
