Landon Boss has done it again as he was named the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week presented by FieldTurf following then #24 Emporia State's 34-20 win over then #20 Michigan Tech. It is the fifth straight conference player of the week for Boss dating back to last season and his sixth career award in 14 games at Emporia State.
In a battle of top 25 teams Boss had 13 tackles, four for a loss, a sack and two quarterback hurries in the win over the Huskies. It was the second double digit tackle game this season for Boss and the 4.0 tackles for loss tied his career high. The Hornets shutout the Huskies in the second half allowing just 48 yards on seven possessions after halftime. It was Emporia State's second straight win over a nationally ranked opponent.
The senior from Osage City, Kan. is leading the nation in tackles for loss and ninth in total tackles. He is second in the MIAA in solo tackles and fourth in sacks.
Boss was a consensus All-American and the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year last season as well as a First-Team Academic All-American.
The now #17 Hornets will return to Blackcreek Diesel Field in Welch Stadium on Saturday, September 19 against Neb.-Kearney. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. in Emporia State's MIAA home opener.
