WEEKEND BOOKEND
Emporia State soccer will play their first two of four straight home matches on either side of the weekend, as they host CSU Pueblo on Friday with Oklahoma Baptist to follow on Monday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets played Rockhurst at home before traveling to the Sooner State for a Saturday matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma. Emporia State scored the opener against Rockhurst before eventually trailing 3-1. The Hornets scored before half but were unable to pull level in the second 45, falling 3-2. Against the Bulldogs, Emporia State conceded three before scoring late to fall 3-1. In both matches, the Hornets had a sizable advantage in shots.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year three at Emporia State in 2026 and has a 16-16-9 record with the Hornets.
John Constable is in his 3rd season at CSU Pueblo an has a 9-21-11 record with the Thunderwolves, while winning 125 matches in his career..
Michael White is in year 12 leading the Bison and has a career record of 106-77-28 at Oklahoma Baptist. 

TOP GUNN
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year two at the helm of Hornet Soccer and is 16-16-9. Grimley-Gunn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach for Missouri S&T's women's program. In 2023, the Miners had their longest unbeaten streak to start a season since 1997 and made a trip to the GLVC Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Prior to her time in Rolla, Grimley-Gunn was the associate head coach at her alma mater Goldey-Beacom College for four years. In those four seasons, the Lightning went 48-24-4. She was also named a recipient of the "30 under 30" award by the United Soccer Coaches in 2019. 

A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State went 9-6-5 in the 2025 season, and made their fourth trip in the past five seasons to the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament. To start off the 2026 campaign, the Hornets have scored seven goals in their first four matches from five different goalscorers. Megan Kephart has scored twice while adding an assist and Ava Huston has two goals of her own. Ruby Ryan, Ella Favot and Amy Paver have also found the back of the net for Emporia State so far this season. The Hornets have several returners in the starting lineup through the first two matches that have played more than 300 minutes thus far, including Ella Favot, Avery Zimmerman, Ruby Ryan, Sammy Quiroz, Aubrey Seltman and Madeline Bracy. Bracy and Zimmerman each have an assists, while Quiroz racked up a pair of assists against #21 Maryville. In goal, Terry Rybuck has played 337 of 360 minutes through the first four matches and has 15 saves.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES
CSU Pueblo is 1-2-1 through the early part of the 2026 campaign with all four matches coming against Lone Star Conference opponents. The Thunderwolves have scored four and allowed four goals across their four outings, with two of their goals coming from freshman Baylie Reedy. Nadia Bailey and Sara Zaehnder have also found the net. CSU Pueblo has been stingy in defense, saving 23 shots and allowing just four goals so far.

SCOUTING THE BISON
Oklahoma Baptist is 1-3 to open the season but have played tough competition in Midwestern State, UT Dallas and Central Oklahoma before defeating Newman on Wednesday. OBU has scored just one goal in their first three outings and have tallied 18 shots. Hope White has scored the lone goal for the Bison and is one of four players with three or more shots.
