August 31, 2026-Emporia State linebacker Landon Boss picked up where he left off last season as he has been named the first MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week presented by FieldTurf of the season.  It is the third straight conference player of the week for Boss dating back to last season and his fourth career award at Emporia State.
 
The senior from Osage City, Kan.  was credited with a career high 17 tackles in the Hornets 36-30 win at Minot State. Included in the total were two tackles for loss, half a sack and a forced fumble. After one week he leads the MIAA and is second in the nation in total tackles. The 17 tackles are the most by a Hornet since Gabe Cleveland recorded 19 tackles against Northwest Missouri on August 31, 2017.  Dating back to last season, Boss has recorded double figure tackles and at least two tackles for loss in three straight games.
 
Boss was a consensus All-American and the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year last season as well as a First-Team Academic All-American.
 
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday, September 5 when they travel to Pittsburg State.  Kick-off from Carnie Smith Stadium in Pittsburg, Kan. is set for 7:00 p.m.
