May 2, 2026 – Emporia State baseball earns the sixth seed in the MIAA Tournament and will play three seed Missouri Southern in the MIAA Quarterfinals in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Hornets finished the regular season with a record of 35-15 overall and 22-14 in the MIAA. Emporia State's 35 wins and 22 in the MIAA are both the most since the 2017 season. The matchup between the Hornets and Lions in the quarterfinals will be the third game of the day on Thursday, May 7 with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond.
Earlier this season, the Lions took two of three against the Hornets with the Lions edging out the Hornets in a pitcher's duel in the series opener. Missouri Southern grabbed game two before Emporia State scored 13 runs to take the finale 13-7.
Emporia State and Missouri Southern will meet for the second straight season in the MIAA Tournament and the matchup will be the ninth all-time in the MIAA Tournament between the Hornets and Lions.
The two teams have split the previous eight MIAA Tournament meetings, with Emporia State looking for their first win in the past four tournament matchups. For the Hornets, the appearance in the MIAA Tournament is their 28th in program history.
