Emporia State Women's Tennis Falls in MIAA Opener at UCO

Hornets drop 6-1 decision to Bronchos

March 27, 2026-Emporia State fell 6-1 at Central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon in Edmond, Okla.
 
DOUBLES
The Bronchos took the doubles point, winning all three matches.  Carla Paul Piquer and Giovanna Ferreira fell 6-3 at #1 to 18th ranked Mei Hasegawa and Pete Komada at #1 doubles.  Sheriden Wichman and Yuliya Klimova dropped a 6-4 decision at #2 while Ana Fatjo Coll and Giulia Russu lost 6-2 at #3.
 
SINGLES
Wichman picked up the lone win for the Hornets, winning 6-4, 6-4 at #4 singles. Paul Piquer went to three sets at #3 before falling 0-6, 6-1, 6-4.  Ferreira lost 6-1, 6-4 to #30 Haegawa at #! while Kilmovs dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Komada at #2 singles. Russu fell 6-2, 6-1 at #5 and Erin Cahill lost 6-4, 6-4 at #6 singles.
 
UP NEXT
Due to the threat of inclimate weather on Sunday, both the Emporia State men's and women's MIAA Duals at Newman have been moved from Sunday to Saturday.  First serve from the Riverside Tennis Courts in Wichita is now set for 2:00 p.m. on March 28.
