Hornet Baseball Wins Midweek Opener Against Fort Hays State 12-7

Four Hornets had multi-hit games; Emporia State wins sixth consecutive game

March 24, 2026 – Emporia State baseball took game one of their midweek series against Fort Hays State with a 12-7 win over the Tigers on Tuesday from the Trusler Sports Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Logan Myers reached on a leadoff double and later scored on a Frankie Santiago sac fly. Fort Hays State responded with two runs in the top of the second for their lone lead of the afternoon, a 2-1 advantage over the Hornets.
 
Emporia State added two in the second and added five more in the third on their way to a controlling 8-2 lead. The Hornets picked up RBI from Nathon Cruz, Dylan Brisbois and Cooper Schwindt with Evan Abbott driving in a pair with a single up the middle.


 
The Tigers would score lone runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the score settled at 8-4 until another big inning by the Hornets.
 
Emporia State scored four in the frame, included three with two outs on their way to a 12-4 advantage. Fort Hays State picked up three runs on a home run by Ordonez in the top of the ninth, but the Hornets held them there, sealing the 12-7 win on Tuesday afternoon.


 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Four Hornets posted multi-hit games, with Nathon Cruz going 3-5 with two RBI and his fourth triple of the season. Evan Abbott drove in three runs, his eighth game with three or more this season.
 
On the mound, Graeme Rios was assigned the win, his second this season, after a nine-pitch shutout sixth inning.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State hits the road this weekend for a three-game series against #15 Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. Game one between the Hornets and Hillcats is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the RCB Bank Sports Complex.
