March 22, 2026 – Emporia State baseball completed a four-game sweep over New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinton Chindamo got the Sunday start for Emporia State and worked around a leadoff double with two strikeouts to open the day with a scoreless inning. The Hornets finally got on the board in the bottom of the second, using two hits and a defensive miscue by the Cowboys to take a 2-0 lead through two frames.
Chindamo's strongest innings of the afternoon came in the third and fourth, as he retired all six batters faced with five strikeouts.
After a scoreless fifth by the freshman, which featured his ninth strikeout of the game, Emporia State finally added to their tally, as
Logan Myers drove in
Cooper Schwindt to extend the lead to 3-0.
After Chindamo capped his day with a 1-2-3 sixth inning, the Hornets added their final run of the day.
Noah Steele singled and later scored on an RBI single up the middle by
Tyler Coffin.
Graeme Rios replaced Chindamo in the seventh and promptly picked up a trio of ground outs to retire the Cowboys in order. New Mexico Highlands picked up their lone run in the eighth against
Nick Woodcock, but Woodcock picked up two strikeouts and limited the damage.
The run for the Cowboys set up
Grant Huffman for his fifth save opportunity, and Huffman needed to just seven pitches to pick it up and seal the 4-1 win and the series sweep for Emporia State.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Quinton Chindamo matched his longest outing of the season of 6.0 innings and recorded a career-high nine strikeouts.
Grant Huffman's save marked his fifth of the season.
Cooper Schwindt and
Austin Lynn both tallied two hits, with Lynn recording his first career multi-hit game. Schwindt,
Logan Myers and
Tyler Coffin all recorded an RBI.
